TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS TO FACILITATE PROGRESS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES AT METRO STATE UNIVERSITY

Creek Consulting was brought in to instruct college students involved in the First Year Success
program at Metropolitan State University in the basics of deliberative democracy. Creek Consulting specifically designed and developed a collaborative curriculum to educate students on the practice of facilitated deliberation. Students were taught to identify stakeholders, stakeholder values, and potential, inherent obstacles and tensions when addressing contentious community issues amongst stakeholders. Students were given tools to think critically and analytically by using a deliberative lens to solve real problems within their community.

As an expansion of the successful program at Metropolitan State, Creek Consulting was asked to
pilot and program and teach Public Deliberation to a group of freshmen and sophomore students at
Manuel High School in Denver. During these sessions, students were given the opportunity to engage in a college- level course that centered around contentious community topics and that incorporated research, critical thinking and writing skills. To learn more about our training services, click here.
